She holds a Master’s degree in Dynamic Geology and a PhD in Geology (Crystallography, Mineralogy and Metallogeny) from the University of Lisbon (2009). In addition to her academic position at DCTE, she is co-coordinator of Research Group 2 (Ocean, Coastal and Land Surface Processes) at the Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) and has recently joined the Executive Board of the DCTE. Her research focuses on deep-sea hydrothermal systems, integrating mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry and isotopic approaches to investigate fluid–rock interactions, metal sources, and seafloor mineralization across slow- and ultraslow-spreading ridges. She has played a key role in the discovery and characterization of hydrothermal fields along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and has participated in multiple international oceanographic expeditions. Before returning to FCUL in 2023, she was Associate Professor at the Institute of Science and Environment at the University of Saint Joseph (ISE, USJ, Macau), where she helped establish the institute, coordinated Earth and Marine Sciences research, led several competitively funded projects, and held senior academic governance roles. She has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international research projects, supervised MSc, PhD and postdoctoral researchers, and serves as an Editorial Board member of Marine Geology. Her current research aims to develop an integrated, data-driven framework for Portuguese hydrothermal systems, combining geo-biological datasets with machine learning exploratory tools, while strengthening international collaborations and contributing to the strategic development of marine geosciences in Portugal.
